How to write an appealing grant summary

The title and summary may be the most important sections of your grant applications, as they are your only chance to leave that ever-so-important first impression. Yet, we seem to always leave this part to last… In this session you will gain insight in the importance of writing an outstanding grant summary to increase your chances of success. I will provide practical tips and tricks to write a summary that sells your story. By attending this lecture you will become equipped to draw your readers’ attention and trigger them to read on.

About Veerle Fleskens

Grant-Writing Expert, Business Development at Oncode Institute
Dr. Veerle Fleskens is a Business Development Manager in the Valorization team of Oncode Institute. She is a molecular biologist by training, specialized in molecular immunology. She obtained her MSc in Cancer Genomics and Developmental Biology from Utrecht University (2008) and her PhD from Utrecht University at the University Medical Center Utrecht (2014), followed by postdoctoral research at King’s College London. In 2016 she transferred to life science consultancy, where she supported universities and biotech in drafting innovative research proposals and strategic business planning, and led a team of consultants. She joined Oncode Institute in 2018, where she supports Oncode Investigators to develop valorization strategies and translate their scientific findings to truly benefit society, with a focus on public:private partnerships. She furthermore provides grant support to researchers for which she initiated the Oncode Strategic Funding Support programme.
