You are on the brink of (considering) taking the lead in research and looking for funding. In this opening session the main funding opportunities will be unfolded. We will discuss what kind of research is funded by the different funding agencies and what are key factors determining your success. This will be followed by how to assess which funding agency best fits your project idea in view of the research topic, research phase and methodology or vice versa. We will also discuss how to approach drafting an excellent proposal. In the next sessions key topics will be discussed in more detail, giving you the tools to write a successful proposal.

Sedef Iskit, PhD, is a molecular biologist specialized in cancer research. After completing her PhD at the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI), Sedef went on to pursue her strong interest in (bio)medical communications as a freelance medical writer. For the last two years, she has been working at Catalyze as a Consultant to help researchers and innovators obtain the funding they need to improve science and technology in healthcare. She has been working with several Dutch, European, and US-American grant schemes offered by the European Research Council, Horizon 2020 Programme, Dutch Research Council, United States Department of Defese, and National Instututes of Health. She also has been working with small companies, most of whom are academic spin-offs, in obtaining grants for product development and commercialization.
