About the role

An international organization within the personal care industry is looking for a Lab Formulation Scientist to join its EMEA Technical Support Team on a temporary basis to cover maternity leave. This position is based in Zwijndrecht, the Netherlands.

Reporting to a Senior Scientist, you will support the development, testing, and evaluation of innovative personal care formulations, with a strong focus on hair care applications.

Key responsibilities

  • Follow Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and comply with all company policies and procedures, with a strong focus on safety.
  • Screen raw materials in formulations and generate technical data to support strategic initiatives.
  • Develop new prototype formulations, particularly within the hair care category, including emulsions, gels, shampoos, and conditioners.
  • Monitor and ensure the quality of new prototypes regarding appearance, sensory properties, stability, compatibility, microbiology, performance, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Perform formulation-related testing and evaluations.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure all technical testing is completed, documented, and supports the development of robust and sustainable formulations.
  • Prepare and distribute prototype samples to support business development activities.
  • Support day-to-day laboratory operations and maintenance.
  • Monitor market trends and competitive developments to identify customer needs and contribute to the development of next-generation cosmetic raw materials and performance data.
  • Support training activities for sales teams and distributors.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations to support business objectives.

What you bring

  • A Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline (Master's degree preferred).
  • 2 to 8 years of experience in cosmetic formulation, cosmetic raw materials, and technical evaluation.
  • Strong computer skills and confidence using standard PC software.
  • A proactive attitude and strong team-player mindset.
  • Commitment to following procedures and quality standards.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Professional proficiency in English.
  • High attention to detail and a thorough, structured approach to work.
  • A genuine interest in cosmetic products and their application.

Salary & Benefits

Salary will be based on experience and expertise and starts from:

  • Gross monthly salary: €2,944 - €4312
  • 8.33% holiday allowance
  • 13th-month salary

A competitive compensation package will be offered based on qualifications and experience.
