Senior Scientist, Target Discovery
As a Senior Scientist, you will be responsible for the conception, design, and day-to-day execution of one or more projects aimed at identifying novel targets for rare genetic disorders. You will also establish assays and disease models to validate candidate targets. The role involves active participation in planning, executing, analyzing, and reporting experimental results, in close collaboration with internal and external partners.
At Scenic, our Science team brings Discovery Sciences and Analytical Sciences together to utilize our proprietary Cell-Seq® platform to identify novel targets and uncover new therapeutic pathways for undisclosed programs. In addition, the team applies advanced assay technologies to support our programs.
Within this role you will focus primarily on our collaborative projects with our partners. You will be expected to make a substantial hands-on contribution, applying our Cell-Seq® technology to advance these programs. Which makes this role interesting for senior scientists who loves to work at the lab themselves. This while working on several sub-projects where you connect the dots and bring in new ideas. For this role industry and hands-on FACS experience is required.
Are you the energetic, pro-active senior scientist who is eager to push our projects further? Please apply!

- Lead defined parts of the program, planning and executing research projects that make a real impact.
- Translate biological questions into experiments: generate and test hypotheses, interpret results in a broader context, and propose next steps.
- Perform hands-on wet-lab experiments to generate high-quality scientific data in cell culture models using FACS, immunofluorescence microscopy and biochemical assays to validate disease readouts and identify new potential drug targets.
- Stay up to date with the latest literature and deepen your expertise in relevant disease processes.
- Communicate your findings clearly through regular reports and presentations at internal science meetings.
- Develop and refine disease models and/or assays to support target discovery and drug development.
Profile
- PhD in Cell Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry or a related field.
- 5+ years post-PhD experience in a biomedical research setting.
- Several years of industry experience is a must.
- Track record of scientific productivity, demonstrated for example by publications in high-impact journals and/or patents.
- Intensive experience with FACS is a must and with genetic screens (CRISPR) a plus.
- Experience with HAP1 cells is a plus.
- Experience with lysosomal, mitochondrial, metabolic, or neurological disorders is a plus.
- Strong interest in and understanding of cellular pathways and disease mechanisms.
- Creative thinker with a proven ability to generate new ideas and approach problems from fresh angles.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
- Highly driven, energetic, and self-motivated, with the ability to set and achieve your own goals.

Company profile
Scenic Biotech is advancing modifier therapy, a radically new approach to treating genetic disorders. Instead of targeting the primary disease-causing mutation, modifier therapy seeks to rebalance health by acting on another function in the genome that can neutralize the disease impact, leading to a therapeutic effect. Our robust pipeline, derived from our proprietary Cell-Seq® platform, includes first-in-class small molecule programs that are wholly owned. By unlocking new pathways in the genome, Scenic will develop a range of modifier therapies to help patients.
We are passionate to make a difference and are recruiting highly motivated talents with various backgrounds to be part of our innovative journey towards the identification of drug targets and development of new therapies for patients suffering from diseases with an urgent medical need. Scenic Biotech is located in Amsterdam, one of the most vibrant European cities and is consistently ranked among the worlds’ cities with the highest quality of life.
