The S&T Product and Process Science Foods department is looking for an experienced Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy (CLSM) and micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) specialist for a short-term assignment. In this role, you will be at the forefront of innovations across the Foods portfolio, providing essential business support and playing a key role in resolving production calamities.

The core focus of this position is microstructure analysis of food ingredients and products using CLSM and micro-CT, including advanced image analysis through both classic methods and deep learning models. You will coordinate the deployment of these techniques in close collaboration with other microstructure analysis experts within the Measurement Science Microstructure team. As part of multi-disciplinary R&D project teams, you will provide expertise and guidance on all aspects of microscopic assessment of food composition and structure.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Translating S&T project questions on food structure-function relationships into practical food analyses;
  • Deploying CLSM and micro-CT in S&T Foods projects and reporting findings to project teams;
  • Coordinating imaging and spectroscopy work with Unilever's microstructure analysis teams and the Wageningen ecosystem.

Profile

You hold a BSc or MSc degree in Food Science, Biological Sciences, Analytical Sciences or a related field, and bring at least 3 years of hands-on experience in microstructural analysis of food products using CLSM and micro-CT. You are familiar with defining microstructure-function relationships in foods and have strong analytical skills. Good communication, reporting and presentation skills complete your profile.
  • BSc or MSc in Food Science, Biological Sciences or Analytical Sciences;
  • 3+ years of experience with CLSM and micro-CT in a food context;
  • Experience with advanced image analysis, including deep learning approaches;
  • Strong communication and reporting skills.

Benefits

Project until end of August 2026.
Salary: 45000 - 55000
